There is renewed relief for candidates affected by technical disruptions during the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), as the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) confirms plans for make-up examinations.
The Board said the decision follows complaints from candidates who were unable to complete their exams due to system failures at some accredited Computer-Based Test centres. The disruptions caused anxiety among students and parents, prompting calls for urgent rescheduling.
JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, Fabian Benjamin, said the Board is working to ensure fairness by giving all affected candidates another opportunity under improved conditions. He disclosed that the make-up exams are likely to hold in the second week of May, with an official date to be announced soon.
He added that technical teams are reviewing CBT operations to identify faults and strengthen systems, including server stability and real-time support, to prevent future disruptions.
JAMB also reassured candidates that no one will be disadvantaged, stressing its commitment to transparency, credibility, and equal opportunity in the examination process.
Meanwhile, attention is shifting to JAMB’s annual policy meeting scheduled for May 11, 2026, in Abuja. The meeting will bring together Vice-Chancellors, Rectors, Provosts, and heads of admissions, alongside regulatory bodies such as the National Universities Commission, National Board for Technical Education, and National Commission for Colleges of Education.
The forum will determine key admission policies, including cut-off marks and guidelines for the 2026/2027 academic session. It will also feature the National Tertiary Admissions Performance-Merit Awards, recognising institutions with transparent and merit-based admission practices.
The 2026 UTME, which ran from April 16 to April 25, was conducted across approved CBT centres nationwide, with results released in phases after completion. JAMB says post-UTME screenings by tertiary institutions will follow between July and October.
