The Jigawa State Police Command says it has arrested several suspects and recovered stolen motorcycles, livestock, a vehicle and large quantities of illicit drugs in a series of coordinated operations across the state.
According to the Command, the operations were carried out through intelligence-led policing in collaboration with local vigilante groups and community watch teams across several local government areas.
Police spokesperson, SP Shiisu Lawan Adam, said the sustained crackdown led to the recovery of a stolen motor vehicle, four motorcycles, seven cows, three sheep, and over 5,800 assorted illicit drugs, alongside cash suspected to be proceeds of criminal activity.
In one of the operations on May 15, officers working with vigilantes arrested two suspects, Isiyaku Isah and Musa Yakubu, both from Birnin Kudu Local Government Area, after a stolen red Boxer motorcycle traced to Bauchi State was recovered.
Investigations revealed the motorcycle had been stolen and moved across state lines before the suspects were intercepted. Both suspects reportedly confessed to the crime.
In another operation on May 19, police in Malam Madori, working with local security volunteers, recovered two motorcycles, a cow and three sheep after suspected thieves abandoned the items and fled into nearby bushes upon sighting operatives.
The Command also arrested a suspect, Emos Monday, from the Federal Capital Territory over allegations of diverting a Toyota Hiace bus entrusted to him for official duties, which was later tracked and recovered.
On May 21, two suspects were arrested in connection with the theft of a Daylong motorcycle which had been repainted in an attempt to conceal its identity. The vehicle was later recovered as evidence.
Police also intercepted a J5 vehicle loaded with four suspected stolen cows along the Kano–Maiduguri highway, leading to the arrest of five suspects from different states.
In a separate operation on May 22, two more suspects were arrested for alleged cattle rustling, with two cows recovered from them.
The Command further disclosed the seizure of 5,886 assorted illicit drugs and the arrest of several suspected drug dealers across different parts of the state.
Commissioner of Police, CP Haruna A. Yahaya, commended officers for their professionalism and praised community members for their cooperation, describing public support as critical to ongoing security successes.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to sustaining the fight against crime and ensuring the protection of lives and property across Jigawa State, adding that all suspects will be prosecuted upon completion of investigations.
