NATIONAL ASSEMBLY TO HOST PRESIDENT TINUBU AT SPECIAL DEMOCRACY DAY

The National Assembly will held a Special Joint Sitting on Thursday, June 12, 2025, as part of activities marking this year’s Democracy Day celebration. The sitting, which will feature President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the Special Guest of Honour, is themed: “26 Years of Democracy: Renewing Our Commitment to National Development.”
A memo circulated to lawmakers by the Clerk of the House of Representatives, Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, confirmed that the session will take place at the House Chamber at 11:00 AM, with President Tinubu scheduled to address the lawmakers and nation at 12:00 noon.
The event is expected to include goodwill messages from past National Assembly presiding officers and will also see President Tinubu confer National Honours on select legislators in recognition of their contributions to Nigeria’s democratic evolution.
According to House Spokesman Rep. Akin Rotimi Jr., the special sitting represents an opportunity to reflect on Nigeria’s 26-year journey of uninterrupted democracy, celebrate achievements, and confront ongoing governance challenges. He urged all Nigerians to use the occasion as a moment for reflection, renewal of patriotism, and recommitment to building an inclusive and prosperous nation.
