Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, has announced that the four critical Tax Reform Bills passed by the National Assembly have reached President Tinubu’s desk for assent. Speaking during the 50th birthday celebration of Presidential Tax Reform Committee Chair, Taiwo Oyedele, Edun hailed the reforms as transformative.
“These bills promise fairness, administrative ease, global best practices, and increased revenue,” Edun stated. He commended Oyedele for leaving a lucrative role at PwC to serve Nigeria, describing it as a sacrifice worthy of national emulation.
Oyedele, in his keynote, advocated for reducing corporate tax rates, simplifying tariffs, and incentivizing exports and digital employment. He emphasized targeted exemptions for low-income earners and small businesses, alongside critical reforms for a stable Naira. “We must prioritize credible data, inclusion, and national interest,” he said.
The reform package seeks to double Nigeria’s tax-to-GDP ratio and is part of a broader fiscal overhaul to drive equity and sustainable growth.
