The Kwara State House of Assembly has passed a revised ₦656,595,559,298.49 budget for the 2026 fiscal year, following the adoption of the report of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation during plenary on Friday, January 30, 2026 .
The appropriation process was led by Speaker Yakubu Danladi Salihu, while the committee report was presented by its chairperson, Arinola Fatimoh Lawal. The approved figure represents an increase of ₦10.59 billion over the ₦646,004,816,893 budget proposal earlier submitted by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq in December 2025.
A breakdown of the revised financial plan shows that recurrent revenue was increased to over ₦409.6 billion, reflecting an upward adjustment of about ₦10.5 billion, while recurrent expenditure was reduced to approximately ₦212.6 billionin an effort to strengthen fiscal discipline. The legislature also raised capital development funding to ₦271 billion, up from the initially proposed ₦254 billion, to boost infrastructure delivery and ongoing development projects across the state.
Additionally, ₦14.2 billion was earmarked for debt servicing in the 2026 fiscal cycle, slightly above the original projection. Lawmakers stated that the revisions were designed to improve budget realism, accelerate capital project execution, and ensure better alignment with the state’s economic and developmental priorities.
Following the passage, Speaker Yakubu Danladi Salihu directed Clerk of the House Ahmed Kareem to prepare and transmit a clean copy of the approved budget to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for assent, signaling the final stage before implementation begins.
