APC Governors play down Fubara Impeachment Plot, say legal and Party Mechanisms are handling Matter

Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have downplayed concerns over the ongoing impeachment moves against Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, describing the situation as a legal and party matter already being addressed through constitutional channels.

Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule, speaking on behalf of the APC governors, indicated that the impeachment process is being guided by due process and remains subject to court rulings. He noted that the governors are not alarmed by the development, as judicial and institutional steps are already in motion to ensure that the rule of law is followed. It was further explained that ongoing court actions, including positions taken by the judiciary, are expected to shape the final outcome of the process.

The APC leadership at both national and state levels has also taken a clear stance against the impeachment effort. The Rivers State chapter of the party formally rejected the move, warning that it could destabilise the state and damage the party’s image. The party argued that the impeachment attempt lacks sufficient constitutional grounding, particularly given that an existing budget approved during the emergency rule period remains valid until August 2026, making claims of budgetary misconduct legally questionable.

Party officials further cautioned lawmakers against yielding to external political pressures, stressing that internal party disputes should not be allowed to trigger governance crises. The APC reiterated its commitment to preserving stability in Rivers State and preventing what it described as politically motivated actions that could derail development and deepen partisan divisions.

Overall, the position of APC governors reflects a broader strategy of restraint, legal deference, and internal conflict management, with an emphasis on constitutional processes rather than political escalation as the impeachment controversy continues to unfold.
