Dangote Moves to Engage Host Communities Ahead of Olokola Deep Seaport Project Takeoff

Dangote Industries Limited has begun formal engagement with host communities in Ogun and Ondo States as preparations intensify for the takeoff of the proposed Olokola Deep Seaport project under its Vision 2030 expansion plan.

The multi-billion-dollar maritime infrastructure is planned for the Olokola Free Trade Zone, spanning parts of Ogun Waterside and Ilaje Local Government Areas along the Atlantic coastline. The project is expected to serve as a major logistics hub for export-driven industrialisation and regional maritime trade.

Speaking during community engagements, the Managing Director of Infrastructure and Logistics at Dangote Industries, Capt. Jamil Abubakar, said the deep seaport would transform the coastal economy, create jobs and position Nigeria as a key player in global maritime trade. He explained that the facility would support the export of fertilisers, petrochemicals and petroleum products, while also easing the importation of heavy industrial equipment.

According to him, the project is designed to reduce pressure on existing ports, strengthen supply chains and support long-term industrial growth across Africa.

During visits to Ode-Omi in Ogun State, traditional ruler Oba Folailu Adekunle Hassan welcomed the initiative, describing it as a long-awaited development. He assured the company of community cooperation, while granting consent for survey work, enumeration of properties and compensation processes ahead of construction.

Similarly, in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, the Oba Adeoloye Olawole expressed excitement over the project, pledging strong community support for its successful execution.

As part of stakeholder consultations, the Dangote team also visited the Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base in Igbokoda, where naval authorities assured security cooperation to safeguard the project and surrounding coastal environment.

The Olokola Deep Seaport is expected to become one of the largest industrial and maritime hubs in West Africa once completed, with significant implications for trade, investment and coastal development across the region.
