Factional rivers PDP chair alleges deception by Fubara

A factional leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State has publicly accused Governor Siminalayi Fubara

of misleading party stakeholders with unrealistic political assurances and of breaching trust before defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

At a press briefing in Port Harcourt, Dr. Nname Ewor, factional Caretaker Chairman of the PDP in Rivers, slammed Fubara for asserting that President Bola Tinubu would compel the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, to back Fubara’s political agenda, including support for legislative cooperation and his re-election bid.

Ewor described these claims as false promises that misled party members, saying Fubara used them to galvanise support within the PDP before abruptly joining the APC in December 2025.

Ewor accused the governor of abandoning the party midway through a crisis that once led to emergency rule in the state.

The factional PDP chair demanded full transparency around all peace agreements and political understandings, Fubara allegedly negotiated with the President and other key actors prior to the lifting of emergency governance in Rivers. He argued that such disclosures are essential for Rivers people to make informed electoral decisions ahead of the 2027 polls.

Political observers note this blistering critique highlights deep fractures within Nigeria’s opposition landscape particularly in the oil-rich South-South where personal rivalries and shifting allegiances have complicated broader party unity and electoral strategy.

As of this reporting, Governor Fubara has not publicly responded to the latest allegations, and it remains unclear whether the factional PDP leadership speaks for the party’s entire state structure or represents a splinter voice amid ongoing internal realignments.
