The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, has officially closed the sale and submission of expression of interest and nomination forms for presidential aspirants ahead of the 2027 general elections.
However, the party has granted a one-week extension for aspirants seeking tickets into other elective positions, including governorship, Senate, House of Representatives, and State Houses of Assembly seats.
The decision was announced in a statement signed by the party’s National Secretary, Ikenna Enekweizu, who disclosed that the new deadline for the purchase and submission of forms is now midnight on Sunday, May 24, 2026, instead of the earlier May 17 deadline.
According to the party, the extension is intended to allow more qualified aspirants enough time to complete their documentation and participate fully in the nomination process. The NDC, however, stressed that no further extension would be granted beyond the new deadline.
The party also released details of its screening timetable, stating that screening and pre-qualification interviews for aspirants would run from May 19 to May 26 across designated venues nationwide.
Aspirants are expected to appear before screening panels with relevant documents, including educational certificates, birth certificates or age declarations, passport photographs, voter’s cards, party membership cards, and detailed curriculum vitae.
The NDC further directed that all submitted documents must be provided in six copies to facilitate the screening process.
According to the statement, the screening exercise will assess aspirants based on competence, integrity, local political considerations, electoral acceptability, and leadership capacity.
The party also instructed screening committees to strictly observe its affirmative action policy designed to encourage greater participation of women, youths, and persons living with disabilities in the political process.
In addition, the NDC urged aspirants to embrace dialogue and consensus-building where necessary to strengthen party unity ahead of the elections.
The development signals the party’s efforts to consolidate its internal processes early as political activities gradually intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
