Remi Tinubu welcomes first baby of 2026

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, kicked off the New Year with a high-profile visit to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jabi, Abuja, where she formally welcomed the first baby born in Nigeria in 2026.

Baby Enekole Zion Adakole, a girl born precisely at midnight to a 26-year-old first-time mother, Patience Adakole was celebrated as a symbol of new beginnings for the nation. Senator Tinubu presented the newborn with an official National Population Commission birth certificate and a range of gifts on behalf of the Federal Government.

The First Lady extended the gesture to several other newborns delivered on New Year’s Day, including triplets born to a couple after 13 years of marriage, and an additional baby boy underscoring the spirit of hope and renewal that many Nigerians attach to the start of a new calendar year.

Accompanied by dignitaries including the wife of the Vice President, Nana Shettima, and the Minister of Women Affairs, Senator Tinubu used the occasion to champion maternal and child wellbeing. She urged parents to cherish their children and highlighted the importance of immediate birth registration as foundational to securing children’s rights and access to services.

This annual First Baby reception has become a staple in the nation’s civic calendar, reflecting both social values and government commitment to family health initiatives.
