Taraba Sends 30 Youths To India For Advanced Seed Technology Training To Boost Agriculture

The Taraba State Government has sent 30 youths to Hyderabad, India, for advanced training in seed production and processing technology as part of efforts to modernise agriculture and strengthen food security in the state.

The initiative, driven by Governor Agbu Kefas, is aimed at repositioning Taraba as a leading agricultural hub through improved seed development, value-chain expansion, and agro-industrial growth.

The 20-day programme is being implemented through a partnership between the state government, Prasad Seeds and AgTech Innovation under the framework of Taraba Seeds Limited.

Officials say the trainees will receive intensive instruction in seed science, processing, quality control, packaging, storage systems, and modern farming technologies through classroom sessions, field demonstrations, and factory-based practical training.

Leading the delegation, the Permanent Secretary of the Taraba State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Mrs. Sarah S.D. Ali, said the programme is designed to expose participants to global best practices in modern agriculture and strengthen their capacity to drive innovation back home.

She explained that the selected youths will play a key role in building a skilled workforce for the state’s emerging seed industry upon their return.

Taraba Seeds Limited, recently launched by the state government, is investing over 20 million dollars in a modern seed processing facility in Lau Local Government Area.

The facility is expected to support large-scale production and distribution of improved seed varieties such as rice, maize, sorghum, and cowpea, all adapted to Nigeria’s diverse agro-ecological zones.

Founder and CEO of Taraba Seeds Limited, Dr. Dileepkumar Guntuku, described the training programme as a strategic investment in human capital development and agricultural transformation.

He said the initiative will equip the youths with technical expertise needed to operate and manage a modern seed production system that meets international standards.

On completion of the training, the beneficiaries are expected to return to Taraba State to support the establishment of the seed processing industry and contribute to increased agricultural productivity, job creation, and rural economic development.

Agriculture stakeholders say the programme could significantly boost seed quality, improve crop yields, and strengthen Nigeria’s food production capacity if effectively implemented.
