In a rare display of political humility and foresight, Honourable Abdussamad Dasuki, a prominent member of the House of Representatives representing Kebbe/Tambuwal Federal Constituency of Sokoto State, has announced his decision to step aside from key leadership ambitions to pave the way for younger legislators.
Dasuki, who has served with distinction in the National Assembly, stated that the time had come to allow a new generation of lawmakers to bring in fresh ideas, renewed energy, and innovative approaches to governance. Speaking on the House floor, he emphasized that his decision was driven by a deep conviction that effective nation-building requires generational renewal and the infusion of new perspectives.
“After several years in public service, I believe the challenges of our time demand new energy and thinking,” Dasuki said, pledging to continue offering mentorship and institutional guidance to younger parliamentarians. He urged other experienced politicians to follow suit, noting that political succession should be anchored on inclusion, competence, and readiness to serve.
The announcement drew mixed reactions within and outside the chamber. Some colleagues hailed Dasuki’s decision as selfless and visionary, describing it as a symbolic moment for Nigeria’s democracy. Others, however, speculated on possible political undertones ahead of the 2027 elections.
