Intense Russian missile and drone attacks struck Ukrainian cities overnight into 9 February 2026, hitting residential areas and energy infrastructure in multiple regions and causing civilian casualties and widespread damage, Ukrainian officials reported early Monday.
In the eastern Kharkiv region, Russian drones struck the town of Bohodukhiv, destroying a house and killing at least three people, including a mother and her 10‑year‑old son, according to regional authorities. At least six others were wounded in residential neighbourhoods as air raid sirens blared and air defence systems engaged incoming threats.
In the southern port city of Odesa and surrounding region, a massive drone assault hit homes, vehicles, and a gas pipeline, killing one person and injuring at least two others, regional governor Oleh Kiper said. Residential buildings suffered structural damage and fires were reported as emergency services responded.
In the southeastern Dnipropetrovsk region, a drone strike caused a fire that destroyed the roof of a three‑storey building and left nine people injured, including a 13‑year‑old girl, local officials said. Several other communities reported air‑raid alerts and explosions overnight.
Across the country, Ukrainian air defence forces reported intercepting a large number of incoming drones, but multiple unmanned aerial vehicles and missiles penetrated defences, striking power infrastructure, residential blocks, and civilian facilities. These attacks deepened challenges for local authorities still dealing with winter conditions and patchy electricity supply.
The overnight attacks occurred amid a continuation of nearly four years of conflict since Russia’s full‑scale invasion of Ukraine began in February 2022.
